Johnson appeared in 59 games as a rookie last season with the Memphis Grizzlies and started 19. He averaged 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 12.8 minutes while shooting 53.8 percent from the field.

Originally selected with the 45th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers, Johnson's rights were first traded to Portland and then to Memphis.
